good news, bad news, <UPDATE BAD NEWS>

Welp, it was kinda nice in my garage so I deside to remove the heads from the new Magnum, as I said before, I got her cheak because it needed a new head, the motor was skipping and the previous owner said it "burned a valve" and would need to get a new head.

So, as I remove the head, I expect to see some sign of a problem, but I see none, I soke my cig and stare at the motor, as I start to manually turn it over, something catches my eye in the far right piston. It's damaged.

I think this was the motors problem. Take a look.

the head doesn't look bad, I will bring it to the machine shop and have it cleaned and checked.

Go the good news is... I may be able to save $250 for a new head
The bad news is, I gotta tear the bitch down now, hehehe

the possible great news is, That $250 can get a nice new set of beter Pistons

Well, I had the head checked, It's still up in the air, in the front and rear , between the valves, theres a little tinny crack. They're going to pull it apart and see if it's actually an issue.

any ideas if this is a big thing?

You'll have to replace them.

I hear its comman but only causes a problem if your having the seats changed. In other words you wont be leaking antifreeze in to the cylinders.

hmm, maybe I wasn't talking clear. I did this to show what I ment, The yellow line is where the crack it. and it's about as thick as the line in the pic. I also circled it to show what I mean.

I knew what you were saying. Ive been told its common but not to worry about it. It only cuases a problem if you are having the seat replaced.

I dont know from personal exoeriance but thats what Ive been told by a few people.

UPDATE I went from not loosing, to not winning.

Machine shop called. They ran a bunch of tests, presure tested the head, the head is dead, The piston is bad of course, the cam has no lob in the magnums for a mecanical Fuel pump, and no one in the area will drill the magnum heads for a older Intake. basicly. I just blew $350 and have nothing to show for it..... well, not true. I can still build this up. but I don't see it going into the Charger anytime soon. So i'm in my original position. Bad bearings in the motor. a dead motor on an engine stand that needs lots of $$$. and an original 318 with a hole in the piston and 3 busted springs.

<---not happy anymore
